-36-P-H-3...........NORTHROP YF-17 IN FLIGHT ........Everybody remember the F-17?..........sure, thats the plane the Air Force didn't think was any good!........Now renamed the F-18 Hornet, it makes up the backbone of US Navy Fighter/Attack fleet...... this is an official USAF photo dated Oct. 1974 with caption attached to back.....mentions it has Sidewinder Missiles...........8" by 10" in very good condition, my photo does not do it justice......$14

-36-P-H-3......JUNKERS Ju88A1 IN FLIGHT....Part of a collection from an old photo historian, this 3.5" by 5.5" photo is in excellent original condition, reverse is pencil marked with the a/c type, and copyright/publisher R.E.A.L. Photogrpahs of Liverpool, UK......my understanding is these photographs were published/sold immediately after VE day when interest was high ...excellent original condition with small numbered sticker on face.... the Dornier 217 was introduced by the Luftwaffe in 1939 as a medium/ heavy bomber, night fighter torpedo bomber, dive bomber, heavy fighter, and recon. airplane..some 15,000 Ju-88's were built....the -AI was apparently the initial production variant, so these were the first to see combat, and the first to be shot down......$18

-36-P-H-3.......... MRS. LOIS MILES, AVIATRIX ........ Nice 8" x 10" of a very genial looking Mrs. Miles standing in front of a late model (well it was then) Piper Comamche ......dated July 7, 1960, this press release photo has a newspaper clipping glued on reverse side mentioning Mrs. Miles will be 'on view' in two days as an entrant in the all-woman Transcontinental Air Race, also known as the 'Powder Puff Derby' .....no word on how she did........the clipping is anecdotally written as the author had attended a party and mistaken Miles as a film studio person...........very good condition original.......$12

-35-P-H-3......... BEECHCRAFT MODEL 45 MENTOR ........Known as the T-34 to just about anyone, this photo is an original press release 8" by 10" dated Dec. 14, 1948, before the US Military decided they had better buy 'a bunch of 'em (and name them!).... reverse of photo has typed byline with enthusiastic commentary from Walter H. Beech (he didn't live much after this) that the plane is stressed for a factor of ten (g's) and a max. permissible dive of 280mph.....photo was probably used in magazine/newspaper as it has some red markings on image.....nice in flight shot taken from another plane in close formation.......photo has some wrinkles and in fair condition ....$15

-36-P-H-3.......RYAN STA......Artistic close up of Ryan STA engine/prop.......the 1930's Ryan STA was one of the more attractive designs of the times with aluminum (often polished, like this one) fuselage, Menasco 'Pirate' in-line engine, and wooden prop........I don't think this is an old 8" by 10" but there is no date on it.......good condition b&w ......$5

-35-P-H-3........OFFICIAL NAVY DAMAGE PHOTO OF GRUMMAN TBF-1C AVENGER TORPEDO BOMBER .......Fascinating original restricted document of the US NAVY.....dated 1945, has official stamps and handwritten specifics of aircraft bu. #, pilot, unit, crew, and cause of crash......photo clearly shows outboard portion of "port" wing missing!......being the tought bird that they were, the Grumman Avenger looked otherwise undamaged.....8 by 10" photo in very good condition ....$12

-36-P-H-3.........BOEING YIB-9A BOMBER.......You want to be the only guy on your block (or your state!) with an obscure airplane photo?........In 1932/1933 Boeing built 5 of these 2 engined, aluminum structure, fabric covered, twin P&W R-1860-11 engine, open cockpit bombers.....here is a photo of all 5 planes lined up.....all bombers are parked on this unknown grass Army Air Corps airfield, with ground-crew servicing some of the planes, and other biplane USAC aircraft in the background.....8" by 10" photo appears to be a developed negative slide, printed on thin, un-marked paper....very good condition and extremely obscure....does the Smithsonian have this photo?.....I doubt it.......$22

-36-P-H-3......DOUGLAS A-20 HAVOC POSTCARD... Attractrive WWII original Douglas postcard measures about 3.25" by 5.5" in new old stock condition.......reverse has A-20 information, mentions that the Havoc is 'now fighting on every front'. The 'Havoc' carries a normal crew of three and is used as attack bomber, night fighter, pursuit, intruder, and for numerous other oprations.'........card is marked Douglas Aircraft Co., Inc., home office, Santa Monica, Calif.....note the attractive shiny camo. paint job with early US Insignias, and lack of any other markings, I suspect this was a factory demonstrator here, it is far 'too clean' to be a regular production plane.....what a good looking machine...excellent condition full color new old stock WWII postcard......$16.50 |
