-36-P-H-2......'GOING DOWN'........handwritten note in pencil on reverse of this photo goes on to explain 'we've got three airplane elevators on the flight deck and one big one on the outboard port side'........this is a personal photo measuring 3.5" by 5" in overall fair/good shape.......the tail of the plane here looks to be a North American T-28 Trojan (?)...... interesting original photo circa 1950's........$4
-35-P-H-2.....PAN AMERICAN AIRLINES BOEING 307 STRATOLINER.......Another 'lucky find' this photo is the Acme Newspictures public press release of the 'latest ship of the skies, Pan American Strato-Cllipper, the Flying Cloud ........touted as 'first supercharged sealed cabin air transport' ......photo os dated 3/12/40.....the Boeing 307 was developed concurrently with the model 299 (B-17 Fortress) and it used the same wings, engines, tail and landing gear ... the plane in the photo is polished metal, has Pan Am logos on nose and aft fuselage, and has Boeing SAtratoliner'totem pole' on the tail..(can any Boeing buff tell me what the difference is between the standard Boeing totem pole and the Stratoliner icon?!)...reverse of photo has typed Acme story byline and various dated stamps.........top of photo has press release marks, and you can bet this photo was used in some ancient newspaper or magazine feature.....this is one of only 10 model 307's and one of only 3 planes that Pan Am purchased... these planes were supposedly used up through WWII, but after that where did they go?.......lets face it, air travel just isn't the same as it used to be....... original photo in good condition ......$35
-36-P-H-2....... GIANT 450 STEARMAN PHOTO 20" X 30"........A recent photo (within last 20 years?) blown up to poster size on Kodak photo paper (probably wasn't cheap to have done)..... fair/good condition and does not include a frame.......shipped carefully rolled.......$10
-35-P-H-2.........ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH 'WHITLEY' HEAVY BOMBER POSTACRD.......Interesting early WWII era British postcard of the Whitley.......If you are mostly unfamiliar with this design as I was, do yurself a favor and look up this design...it was first designed in 1934 by a man who was unfamliar with wing mounted landing flaps, so the first planes had no flaps, and to make up, they had the flight crew positioned quite nose down so they could see during takeoff and landing!.....also the first airplanes had bomb bay doors that were held shut by bungee cords, which would allow the doors to opoen when the bombs were release in the bay and fell on the doors!!!.... probably not one of Britain's most proud designs......the last operational planes flew in 1946, and none exist today.....this postcard is new old stock original, measures 3.5" by 5.5" and reverse is marked 'Valentine's' post card of London, printed in Great Britain.......takes a 1d or 1 f stamp?.......quite obscure and in excellent new old stock original condition.......$15
-35-P-H-2......DORNIER Do-217 IN FLIGHT....Part of a collection from an old photo historian, this 3.5" by 5.5" photo is in excellent original condition, reverse is pencil marked with the a/c type, and copyright/publisher R.E.A.L. Photogrpahs of Liverpool, UK......my understanding is these photographs were published/sold immediately after VE day when interest was high ...excellent original condition with small numbered sticker on face.... the Dornier 217 was introduced by the Luftwaffe in 1940 as a medium/ heavy bomber and night fighter....$16
-35-P-H-2........BRAZIL'S PIONEER WOMAN FLYER STUDYING AT LAGUARDIA FIELD.......Mrs. Anesia Pinheiro Machado.....This is an original press release photo dated Nov. 29. 1943. Mrs. Machado had just taken a 6 month refresher course at the CAA in Houston TX. and was currently putting in 2 months at the Pan American Airways School for pilots.... The article glued to the back of the photo mentioned that when training was completed, she would be returning to Brazil to train new pilots- men and women.....original 5" by 7"......good condition......$12
-35-P-H-2.......SAUNDERS ROE (SARO) S. 36 LERWICK .....How is this for an obscure British flying boat of WWII??!!......this was a medium range twin engine reconaissance seaplane of which only 21 aiplanes were built between 1938 and 1940.....the plane had miserable stability and was constantly modified with different tails, props, wing dihedral, and Lord knows what else.......I think this is plane #1 (Serial L7248), with the original shape tail....not a small plane, it had a 80' wingspan, two 1375 HP Bristol radial engines, and grossed at 33,000 #....photo is about 8" by 10", has inked stamp on reverse marked 'A British Hovercraft Corporation, LTD'...... looks to be an original press release photo in excellent original condition, circa 1938...may be all thats left of this plane!.....$20
-35-P-H-2......1931 TRANS- PACIFIC PILOT HOPEFUL SEIJI YOSHIWARA.......Original Associated Press photo dated May 4, 1931........'youthful Japanese flier, who plans to make a solo flight from Japan to San Franciso, Calif., starting abouot April 30. He will make 19 stops enroute at various North Pacific islands, most of them in the Aleutian Chain.'..... a few years back from a fellow who claimed to have known of Seiji back in 'the day' and said the Seiji never completed his trip, but instead has some mechanical problems and had to stop before completion, but was unharmed, and interesting story for sure......reverse of the 6" by 8" AP photo has stamped story and credits, undouobtably this photo appeared in various journals of the day.......fascinating history of another obscure pioneer pilot.....good condition......$25
-35-P-H-2......DORNIER Do-17P IN FLIGHT....Part of a collection from an old photo historian, this 3.5" by 5.5" photo is in excellent original condition, reverse is pencil marked with the a/c type, and copyright/publisher R.E.A.L. Photogrpahs of Liverpool, UK......my understanding is these photographs were published/sold immediately after VE day when interest was high ...excellent original condition with small numbered sticker on face.... the Dornier 17 was introduced by the Luftwaffe in 1937 as a light bomber and recon. aircraft....interestingly, the 'P' version had BMW radial engines instead of the Diamler Benz engines - so that the plane would burn less gas....was the 3rd. Reich environment concious?...excellent condition photo..$16
-36-P-H-2.... TRANSLAND AG-2 FARM/ FORESTRY PLANES.......Publicity photo from Transland of Torrance California....... certified in 1958 and billed as a farm/forestry dust/spray plane......looks like it used FWF (firewall forward) off a AT-6......not much info on Transland, but they are long gone and I'd swear I've seen this same basic airplane called something else........Air Tractor?...... Snow?.........Weatherly?....... I don't know but it looks familiar........here we have two of 'em parked on the ramp in a 8" by 10" with some damage to lower part of photo (not the image, just the border and some of the typed info at bottom of photo)..overall original good shape from files of an old ag-pilot...circa 1958.....baffle your flying buddies for only ........$5
